Education Tourism building momentum in Cairns

Study Cairns has developed an enviable reputation as a leading Queensland educational tourism destination. Following on from the success of the sell-out Edu-Tourism Workshop in October, Study Cairns is formulating an Edu-Tourism Cluster sub-committee to further develop the region as a world class Education Tourism destination.

The focus of the recent Edu-Tourism Workshop was to educate tourism operators and TTNQ members of potential opportunities to develop or expand their business. Emerging trends and industry opportunities were the main topics of discussion. Delegates learnt how to diversify existing tourism product and services to expand their market share in the International Education market.

Feedback from both the education and tourism sectors was excellent with high praise for informative and engaging session from well-established industry partners from both sectors. Workshop sessions generated much excitement about this burgeoning industry with five local operators immediately signing up to become Study Cairns members as a result.

The planned Edu-Tourism sub-committee will be instrumental in building on momentum in the Edu-Tourism sector, particularly in the lead up to ANZA 2017 next April. Other current activities in the market are supporting Cairns position as a world-class education tourism destination.

International Student Ambassadors, the winners of the Best Semester Abroad competition, along with outstanding international students, were officially welcomed to Cairns at a recent Friendship Cruise event. The Best Semester Abroad campaign is an initiative of Trade and Investment Queensland. Five students are studying and living in Cairns for five months, promoting the region via their social media channels. Additionally, a web series of video clips under the Summer Life QLD banner, documents international student life in Queensland.

With the international spotlight shining brightly on Cairns tourism and education sectors, Study Cairns will soon be inviting members to register their interest in sub-committee positions. Please subscribe to our newsletter to keep up to date.
