Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures wildlife park in tropical north Queensland was thrilled to entertain Best Semester Abroad students recently. Hartley’s have been around for eons – they recently celebrated their 80th birthday so they know a thing or two about having a good time!

Best Semester Abroad Hartleys Crocodile (7)

Don’t be alarmed! This kangaroo is not ill, she’s actually just having a Nanna Nap. Which she’s kind of entitled to, given that this kangaroo at Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures is 24 years old and is claimed to be the oldest kangaroo in Australia. Phew! No wonder she’s tired.

The name Hartley’s has been synonymous with crocodiles since 1935. But the connection with crocs only came about by accident. Herb (Pop) Evans, who ran a tearoom named Halfway House midway between Cairns and Mossman.  Halfway House was always popular with travellers but when Pop decided to buy a crocodile advertised for sale in the Cairns Post, the focus of the tea rooms changed. Halfway House eventually transformed into today’s Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures.

There’s still a café that’s popular with travellers but the biggest attraction these days are the many wildlife species. Hartley’s is well known as a crocodile stud and farm and offers an exceptional opportunity to view crocodiles in a spectacular and safe environment.

Best Semester Abroad Ambassadors Anshisa, Tiffany and Jocelyn were thrilled to check out these apex critters with Study Cairns member Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures!
