Study Cairns President wins Industry Champion of the Year Award
The 2017 Queensland Excellence Awards recognise the contributions of individuals across Queensland’s international education sector. From an education leader who’s given many years of service to a Year 10 student with a global social conscience, the state’s international education and training (IET) stars were recognised recently at Queensland’s inaugural IET Excellence Awards.
Study Cairns President Carol Doyle was awarded one of the highest honours, taking out Industry Champion of the Year.
‘Through my involvement in the International Education sector, I am assisting others every day to change people’s lives. Every opportunity that presents itself is a chance for me to learn something new, build relationships and make new friends,’ said Carol, reflecting upon the positive influence she wields as President at Study Cairns.
The IET Awards are divided into three champion categories: IET Student Excellence, IET Alumni Excellence and IET Industry Excellence.
Industry Champion of the Year, Study Cairns President Carol Doyle, works countless volunteer hours to promote Cairns as an international study destination while also managing her own distance education business.
Carol’s nomination noted that she not only leads Study Cairns and represents the region in many forums, but goes the extra mile to deliver hands-on help when necessary. Cooking a Sunday morning breakfast on the Cairns Esplanade for a visiting international study group was just one of the examples given.
‘My philosophy is that life is not a rehearsal, you have to lead by example, build people’s trust and enjoy every moment,’ Carol says.
Carol’s commitment and level of dedication in her pursuit to improve the international education industry is relentless. She is an inspiring leader who consistently demonstrates limitless passion, enthusiasm and determination to improve Cairns as a leading education destination both domestically and internationally.
Carol is an eternal optimist who works tirelessly to ensure international education in Cairns and surrounds provides a quality experience for all students. Her leadership style is empathetic and enthusiastic, and she is well respected and highly regarded by the community and her peers. Sought out for her expertise and enthusiasm, Carol engages with the community, gaining support from all levels of government, business and industry to unite and form alliances that showcase Cairns globally as a leading education destination.
The IET Excellence Award for Alumni of the Year went to Dr Linh Tran, who completed her PhD at QUT and has shown great leadership as head of the School of Nursing at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
The IET Awards also recognised international students achieving excellence in Queensland institutions, with winners named in the categories of higher education, VET, research, ELICOS and regional student of the year. The successful students come from countries around the world, including India, Canada, Brazil and the Netherlands. The youngest winner of the evening was Taehwan Kim from Korea, a Year 10 student at Brisbane Boys College, who was named School Student of the Year.
As well as receiving official recognition for their IET achievements, award recipients will become ambassadors for Study Queensland and help promote Queensland as a leading international student destination.
